Is Scabies Considered A Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD)?

Scabies is a highly contagious disease. It is spread by touch and all kinds of contact with the infected person. Sharing of personal items can also lead to the spread of the infection. A long hand shake, a hug and a sexual intercourse can cause the infection to be transmitted from the host to the victim.

 Let us read more about the transmission of Scabies –

1. Mode of Transmission

Scabies is categorized as an STD disease as it can spread through sexual contact with an infected person. It can also spread by sharing the bed, furniture, towel, and clothing’s with them.  

2. The Infestation of Scabies

From the time scabies infects a host, he is considered infested with the infection. The symptoms might show after two weeks or so, but the infestation period is calculated from the first point of contact. All people, he has an intimate relationship with in that period are at a high risk of contracting the infection.

3. Total Eradication of Scabies

A person is considered highly contagious once he is infected. Even his clothing and linen are considered infections. If a person does not take care to eradicate the infection from his surroundings after completion of the treatment, there is every chance that he might get re-infected.

When either you or your partner is infected, make sure to avoid physical contact for a couple of days. Avoiding sex is strictly important. Buy a good over-the-counter drug like Dr Scabies to knock off the mites at the earliest.

Remember, scabies does not mean you start blaming each other for poor hygiene and other such things. Just focus on timely treatment and you should be back in action in as little as 3-4 days.
