Get to know about the long-term effects of untreated Head lice

Head lice infestation is also known as Pediculosis, it is a condition in which tiny insects infest the scalp. Head lice most often affect children who are in direct contact with one another or who share personal items, such as brushes, hats or scarves. These little bugs suck our blood but they cannot transmit diseases and thus they are not dangerous for health. Symptoms include itching, visible lice on the scalp and lice eggs (nits) on the hair shafts. Medicated shampoos or combing and removing the nits from the hair are helpful.

Head lice will not harm you, but of course, you should treat them otherwise there can be many side effects of these head lice. They can be annoying and require a great deal of effort to treat. It is estimated that over 12 million children each year experience head lice infestation.

An infestation causes the scalp to itch. If you are scratching and digging at your skin, you could break the skin and can become infected and lead to more serious conditions. Cellulitis, an infection of the superficial and deep layers of the skin may require antibiotic for treatment.

If you have had head lice for several months, you will probably be scratching your head a lot, and have crusts on the scalp. The problem, in this case, is that the crusts might get infected and you might suffer a bacterial infection called impetigo of the skin. Impetigo is caused by streptococcus (strep) or staphylococcus (staph) bacteria.

The skin normally has many types of bacteria on it, but intact skin is an effective barrier that keeps bacteria from entering and growing in the body. When there is a break in the skin, bacteria can enter the body and grow there, causing inflammation and infection.

Treatment

Head lice can live on the scalp for weeks or months. Once youstart itching and scratching, it can make your head raw and prone to infection. Head lice can be treated with an over-the-counter medication or naturally with some natural essential oils.  Like Wet comb, to get rid of lice naturally pretty much always involves a fine tooth comb. Wet-combing is a natural lice remedy that needs to repeat every three to four days for a minimum of two weeks after you don’t see any lice present. The person with head lice needs to have their hair completely wet. It’s also a good idea to add some conditioner (ideally a natural anti-lice conditioner).

Lice killing essential oils are also a good option. Many studies have demonstrated that some specific essential oils can have toxic effects on lice and live eggs. Some of the top choice for anti-lice essentials oils include tea tress oil, lavender oil, and eucalyptus essential oils have been shown to be effective.

Anti-lice shampoos are agreat alternative.Apply Anti-lice shampoo (Medicated shampoo) as soon as possible after you’ve found out the symptoms of lice. When you are treating head lice, apply this shampoo to the hair and scalp only. First, wash hair with your regular shampoo, but do not use conditioner. Thoroughly rinse the shampoo out with water and towel-dry hair. Shake this Anti-lice shampoo well before using. Cover your eyes with a towel while applying this shampoo. Massage your hair and scalp for five minutes and after that rinse off your hair properly.

Comb your hair, and the infected person should be checked by another person for lice and nits using a magnifying glass and bright light. To remove nits, use the special comb provided, and follow the instructions on the package. After combing, re-check the entire head every day for nits you might have missed. Remove any nits by combing, by hand using a disposable glove, or by cutting them out.
