How would I know that this treatment is not working for Scabies?

Scabies is a skin infection caused due to the scabies mite which is also known as the human itch mite. The mite gets transferred through close physical contact with the person or his belongings.

The initial symptoms of scabies are itching at fingers, genitals, armpits which continue to spread all over the body if not treated well.

Generally, itching is at its worst during the first week but lightens by the end of second week and finally if the treatment is proper then the mites vanish after four weeks.

But sometimes, the treatments do not work properly and this can turn out to be hazardous. Some of the ways to check whether your doctor’s prescribed dose is working on your skin or not is:

  • If you are not relieved of the skin itch even by a bit, then you need to check with your doctor for the dose of the medicine.
  • If the scabies itch has given rise to multiple skin infections, then possibly the treatments are not working for you.
  • If your condition is still the same after four week of continuous treatment then probably the medicine you are using has become immune to scabies mite.

All these factors indicate there is something wrong with the medicines you are using or the precautionary steps you are taking. And that’s why the treatment is totally ineffective for you.

Some of the effective treatments for scabies are:

1.    Tea Tree Oil

Tea Tree Oil is effective in fighting against the scabies mites. It is a major constituent in most of the medicines for treatment of scabies. And also is one of the most successful and easy to do home remedy which is even recommended by physicians.

Tea Tree Oil has terpenoids, an antimicrobial product, which can kill the mites hidden deep under the skin. Although Tea Tree oil can be employed for any type of skin infection but it is effective for scabies as well. It can fight off all kinds of bacterial and fungal infections.

2.    Borax

Borax has hydrogen peroxide which can act and destroy all the fungal infections. Borax has natural ingredients which can kill the infection deep under the skin.

It is generally recommended that people should soak themselves in Borax water for some time. Even this solution can be used for disinfecting clothes and bedding of the patient.

3.    Neem Oil

Neem Oil has been used through recent times to treat many skin infections. It is effective in killing the scabies mite by hindering their growth. It also heals the skin, lessens the pain and itch thereby making the skin smooth.

There are many neem products available in the form of soaps, oil or lotions which can be rubbed or applied all over the body to get relieved of the infection.

4.    Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen Peroxide is a harmless antibacterial product which can kill the mites through oxidation as it is made up of oxygen and water. For more effective results, Hydrogen Peroxide can be mixed with Borax and the mixture can be used while bathing for epidermis and dermis healing.

5.    Bleach

Bleach is a decontaminator as well as an effective cleanser which can help to clear your skin of the scabies mites by drying it. A single cup of bleach combined with three parts of water can be used while bathing which can give fast relief.

But make sure you take a shower in order to rinse off the bleach from your skin. Don’t apply the bleach to your face or into your eyes.

6.    Clove Oil

Although Cloves are used as a food spice but clove oil can be best used to treat scabies and get rid of it. Its analgesic, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory property doesn’t let the infection to last for long as it dries up the blisters and rashes.

You can apply 10 drops of clove oil to the affected area but make sure you are not allergic to it. Clove oil combined with honey and water serves as an effective antiseptic mixture.
