Now reduce scabies itching at home: Easy things to do!

Suffering from relentless itching?

Are you suspecting scabies mites infestation?

Then you need to know that scabies is a very contagious type of skin disorder which is caused due to infestation with microscopic mites. This parasite mite is called Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis. It is an eight legged mite which is invisible to the naked eye.

The presence of mites beneath the skin surface causes intense itching, which has to be treated as soon as possible. Looking for some easy solutions? Here’s a list of things you can do to reduce itchiness.

Choose your soap and detergents wisely

Do you know soaps can also strip of your skin of natural oils? Well, not all, but most of the soaps in the store has ingredients which are known skin irritants. These can often cause inflammation and eczema like symptoms. Make sure you avoid the irritants and instead choose a soap which helps reducing scabies symptoms.

Soak in colloidal oatmeal

If you are wondering from where to get colloidal oatmeal, don’t worry! It is simply oats grounded into an extremely fine powder. This powder features properties which would comfort the itch very well. So, when you add it to bathwater, it will form a milky cloud which will stay in the water and will not sink to the bottom of the bath. Make sure it is ground finely so that it sets into the skin, nourishes your skin, and keep the itch away.

All you need to do is fill your bath tub with lukewarm water, and it is filling, you can add a packet (two to three cups) of colloidal oatmeal. Just let it disperse and if you want better results you can add baking soda and coconut oil too. These will add a nice finishing touch to the bath. Let your body soak well in the solution, and after a long soak wash off a bit in cold water. You need to keep your skin itch-free and cool. Feel free to take bath up to three times a day.

Switch to an antihistamine

Basically, antihistamines are known to block your body’s histamine response to allergens. And as the itch of scabies is caused due to body’s allergic reaction to the mites, taking an antihistamine will temporarily relieve your itch.

So, if your skin is itching too much, it is advised good to take antihistamines before bed.

Maintain your diet

No you don’t need to starve for any reason. But yes, some foods can make you more prone to itchy skin. In fact, do you know that there are skin problems like psoriasis and dermatitis which are triggered greatly with the food you eat?

Similarly, what you eat could make a huge difference between skin that is ravaged by itchiness and skin which doesn’t react. Hence, you need to avoid foods which contain natural histamines. Here is a list of foods you must avoid:

  • Red wine
  • Aged cheese
  • Seafood
  • Eggs
  • Artificial food colors and preservatives
  • Spices
  • Citrus fruits
  • Fermented foods (sauerkraut, kombucha, yogurt)
  • Bacon (and other cured meats)
  • Alcohol
  • Vinegar

Adorn right stuff

Yes, clothing matters when it comes to keeping the itch at bay. Believe it or not, your body can become hyper sensitive to some material, and this will affect your skin while you have Scabies. So, you must avoid new clothes, regardless of materials. As they often have additives, they can cause more itching. Plus, stay away from latex, wool, and all overly tight clothes.

Wondering what to wear? The materials you can go with are cotton, dye free / perfume free, silk, linen, and loose clothing.
