Can Scabies Cause Urinary Tract Infection?

Scabies is a highly contagious skin disease caused by microscopic mites called Sarcoptes scabei. If the right precautions are not taken, the mites can cause a severe Urinary Tract Infection.

Scabies spreads by personal contact and once a member of the household gets infected, very soon the whole family catches the disease. It is very common for sexual partners to infect each other, if proper precautions are not taken. It can also spread by sharing personal belongings or the bed.

1. Precautions to Be Taken While Intercourse

Personal hygiene is the most important thing to remember in order to avoid contracting Scabies from your partner. It can be avoided by using condoms during sex. All beddings should be washed and towels and other clothing should not be shared. Ideally the washing of linen should be done with hot water within 48 hours.

2. Keep The House Clean

Besides maintaining personal hygiene, it is also important to keep the premises and surroundings also clean. All carpets should be vacuumed and the rugs and furniture should be kept absolutely clean. The vacuum bags should be discarded after use.

3. UTI

Since Scabies mites are often present in the genital region, they can enter the urinary tract and cause infection, during intercourse. If a patient gets infected, he should wear loose and comfortable undergarments. He or she should increase the fluid consumption and have lots of juices. The excess urine will help in flushing out toxins from the body.
