Your vet may prescribe anti parasitic medication as well as medication to ease the itching, inflammation and secondary skin infection. Results can be seen after a month of treatment.  Medication and managing physiological stress are essential when treating demodectic mange. Some dogs also require special treatment such as medicated shampoos for asecondary skin infection. Many skin treatments can be toxic to dogs and should not be repeated frequently, so check with your vet before beginning any treatment program for mange.

Maintaining thegood health of your dog is also important to preventing dog scabies. Remember scabies is zoonotic (can be passed from animals to humans) so pet owners that have the close contact with their dogs may develop an itchy rash. After your dog has been treated, however, symptoms usually disappear.
