Natural Ways to Take Care of Your Sensitive Skin

Here are some simple ways to take care of your sensitive skin.

Living with sensitive skin is not easy. People with this skin type are prone to sunburn, irritation, itching, breakouts and allergy. Then, they have to restrict to minimal cosmetics to avoid reactions from the cosmetic products. Sensitive skin is caused by allergic skin reactions like eczema and rosacea, dryness, over dry or injured skin and exposure to wind, sun or heat/cold.

According to one study, nearly 45 percent of Americans had sensitive skin while female respondents were more concerned than their male counterparts.

While choosing the right cosmetics is important for sensitive skin, there are many things to take care of your sensitive skin.

Aloe Vera Gel:

Aloe vera is a natural remedy for many health concerns. It is a boon for the people with sensitive skin, thanks to its healing properties and Vitamin E.

Peel off a fresh aloe leaf to obtain the gel. Apply it on the affected parts of your body. Let it rest for overnight and rinse it off with water in morning. You may experience mild itching after an application which is totally normal.

Take Lemon Water:

A glass of lemon water can benefit the people with sensitive skin. Vitamin C in lemon can help deal with free-radical damage. Besides, it removes toxins from the blood and removes skin woes like acne, blemishes and wrinkles.

And it is easy to make. Mix one tbsp. of lemon juice into a glass of lukewarm water. Then add a little raw honey and stir it well. Take it on an empty stomach every morning just half an hour before your breakfast.

Turmeric:

Turmeric powderis an effective remedy for many skin woes. It is an antiseptic property that heals the skin breakouts and rashes. Curcumin found in turmeric powder is good for the skin. Mix a tbsp. of turmeric powder with a few drops of hone with 2 tbsp. of raw milk to obtain the thick paste. Apply this paste over the affected parts of the skin. Leave it for 15-20 minutes and rinse it off with plain water.

Honey:

Honey contains effective anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antiseptic properties. It soothes the skin inflammation as it moisturizes the skin. Pure honey may affect the sensitive skin, so dilute it with rose water, aloe vera and other soothing ingredients before applying it to your sensitive skin.

Take one spoon of honey on dry and clean skin, and let it sit for 15-20 minutes. Wash it off with cool water. You can also mix one spoon of raw honey with two spoons of jojoba oil or coconut oil. Apply to dry and clean skin, and massage gently in a circular motion. Rinse with cold water.

Cucumber:

Cucumber not only repairs the skin, but also softens it. Just mix 2 tbsp. of cucumber juice with 1 tbsp. of honey to give your skin the nourishment it needs. You can store it as a face wash.

With the help of these home remedies, you can soothe inflammation and dryness caused by sensitive skin. However, it is important to stick to some precautions given below.

• Take 8-10 glasses of water to keep your skin hydrated (moisturized).
• Don’t use allergic cosmetics. Instead, go for hypo-allergic cosmetics.
• Apply sunscreen to avoid itching and irritation caused by the sun.
• Don’t use perfumed soaps and cosmetics.
• Don’t consume alcohol as it causes dryness.
• Wear the clothes made of natural fabrics like cotton and silk.
• Protect your skin from extreme sunlight.
• Manage your stress as it triggers inflammation in the body.
