However, some individuals are allergic to the certain compounds in oatmeal. For example, they may feel itching, redness or swelling after taking bath.

So it would be better if you use oatmeal to a little skin patch first like such as the back of the hand. Leave it for 15 minutes and observe the signs. If you don’t experience unwanted symptoms, you can take oatmeal bath.

How to Prepare an Oatmeal Bath:

  • Use only lukewarm water to treat your skin affecting from poison ivy, allergic reactions, dry skin or chickenpox. Hot water not only worsens your already inflamed skin, but also steals moisture from your skin.
  • As the tub is filling from the faucet, add the colloidal oatmeal to the bathtub. (You can prepare colloidal oatmeal at home with uncooked, whole oats. Grind them using a clean food processor or blender to grind them into a find, even powder.)
  • Stir it well.
  • Soak for 10 minutes.
  • Afterward, pat or blot yourself dry with a towel — don’t rub your skin because this can cause irritation.

  • Don’t add fragrances or perfumed product to the tub as it may irritate the skin.
  • Drain off the water and disinfect the tub with bleach and hot water.
