Scabies Home Remedies to Try Before Seeing Your Doctor

What if your OTC medications fail to work? Before seeing your doctor, here are the remedies to try for a quick scabies relief.

Scabies is a common yet horrible skin disease. Caused by the mites, scabies torments the life with blisters, rashes and relentless itch. Luckily, scabies is curable with both OTC and prescription medications. Most people use OTC medication to cure their scabies at home. However, some people are allergic to these medications. Sometimes medications don’t work for some people. Before going to doctor, you can have some moments of relief with the remedies given below.

Lavender Oil:

  • Lavender oil can eliminate the scabies as well as help in skin regeneration. There are many ways to use the lavender oil for scabies.
  • Take lavender oil and olive oil (in equal parts) and apply it over the affected area. Let your skin absorb the oil. Repeat the process several times a day.
  • Take lavender oil with rubbing alcohol in equal parts. Rubbing alcohol is known as a strong astringent which is why it can inhibit the growth of scabies mites and secondary infections. Repeat the process twice times a day.

Add five to six drops of lavender oil to bath tub filled with lukewarm water. Soak yourself in it for nearly fifteen minutes. Take the bath daily.

Turmeric:

Turmeric is known for its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. Besides, it is safe for your kid’s skin.

Mix some drops of lemon juice and water with 1 tbsp. of turmeric powder to make a paste. Apply it to the affected part of your child’s skin and leave it for nearly an hour. Rinse it off with lukewarm water. Repeat it daily till you notice improvement.

Aloe Vera:

Aloe Vera eases itchy inflammations and prevents secondary infections. Just peel some aloe leaves to obtain the gel like substance. Apply it to the affected areas. Let it dry for about thirty minutes and then rinse it with some lukewarm water. Apply it several times a day to see a quick improvement.

Clove Oil:

Clove oil is packed with analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. It dries up scabies rashes and blisters. Its toxic nature can efficiently kill mites and scabies mites within an hour of contact. All you need to add 10 drops of clove oil with one tbsp. each of honey and coconut oil. Apply it over the affected area twice times a day.

White Vinegar:

White vinegar balances the pH level of the skin as it increases the acidic level. Acidic level of the skin makes it toxic for the scabies parasites, eventually eliminating them. Mix white vinegar and fresh water in equal amounts. Apply it to the skin using a cotton ball. Wait for five minutes and wash it off with lukewarm water.

Onion:

Onion can be an effective scabies treatment. This is because it contains quercetin – an effective analgesic that soothes the symptoms of an itch. Plus, it is loaded with organosulfur (basically sulfur) which kills the mites. Boil 7-8 onion in water. Let the water cool down. Afterwards, apply the water on the affected areas. Or you can grind some onion into mixer to obtain a thick paste. Use muslin cloth to extract the juice out from the paste. Use it on the affected area.

Tea Tree Oil:

Tea tree oil is a popular effective treatment for scabies and other skin infections. It has antiseptic and disinfectant properties. Tea tree oil not only balances the pH level of your skin but also kills the scabies parasite with its terpinen-4-ol. Mix 12 drops of tea tree oil with lukewarm water and soak the affected area in it for nearly 15 minutes.

Besides, you can take tea tree oil and olive oil in 1:1 ratio and apply it on the infected part with the cotton ball. Let your skin absorb the mixture so that it can eliminate the parasite.
