Sometime if a person is bitten for the first time they won’t have a response. This is because their body hasn’t formulated repose to the foreign invader. So when an irritating bite appears, it’s good to know what remedies work to ease the itchiness.

Crushed ice

Cold temperature and ice can reduce inflammation; the ice also numbs the skin for a while to give short term relief. Don’t leave the ice directly on your bite for more than five minutes as it can damage the skin. You can also put a barrier, such as a washcloth, between your skin and the ice so you can leave the ice on the bite longer.

Aloe Vera

A common household plant aloe vera has many uses beyond shelf decoration. The gel has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, and can help to heal minor wounds or calm infections. That’s why it may be a good bet for healing a bug bite, too. To try this, cut open a small section of the plant. Apply the plant’s gel to the area that’s irritated. Let it dry, and apply again as needed.

Baking Soda

Baking soda is easily available in every kitchen and has several uses- from breaking bread to clearing drains. Make a paste with baking soda and water. Apply it on the bite and leave it for few minutes before washing it off. Baking soda and water an alkaline solution, which neutralize the pH level of the skin to provide skin relief.

Essential oils

If you have the tea tree oil in your house than it’s good for the mosquito bite. Tea tree oil has the natural antiseptic properties which relief the itching. Lavender oil also has the healing properties you can apply it on the mosquito bites. Only dab of lavender oil can reduce the swelling and discomfort.


Honey is nature’s finest work, it has the antibacterial and antiseptic properties that helps to heal the wounds. Honey helps to heal the inflammation and can also help in prevent infection. Don’t wear outside, though because honey’s sugar can attract more mosquitoes.

Tea bag

Green and black tea’s anti swelling effect may not just be useful for swollen eyes. Tea’s anti-inflammation effects may help with the swelling, soak a tag bag in hot water and then put it into the fridge. Apply the cold tea bag on the mosquito bite to ease the itchiness.


The fragrant basil plant is a key ingredient of many food recipes. But is also helpful in mosquito bite remedy. Studies suggest that the chemical compound eugenol, which is found basil is useful in reliving in itching.

To make a basil rub, boil 2 cups of water and add half an ounce of dried basil leaves. Leave the mixture to steep until it’s cool. Then dip a washcloth into the liquid, and rub it gently on your mosquito bites.


Apple cider vinegar is a natural remedy to treat many medical conditions. From infection to blood glucose problem. So if you have an itchy bite dab a vinegar on it. The vinegar help in reduce the itching and burning sensation.  If you have many bites, dilute 2 cups of vinegar in a tepid bath and soak for 20 minutes. (A hot bath may make itching worse.
