Before you start using malathion lotion for treating scabies, consult your doctor and make sure your physician knows:

  • If your skin areas are sore or infected.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you are allergic to some ingredients present in the medicine.
  • If the treatment is for a child under six months old, as some other treatment is preferred for infants.

How to use malathion liquid to treat scabies:

Before applying, make sure you’ve read all the instructions given in the manual carefully. Now apply the liquid all over your body including face, neck, ears, and scalp. But make sure it doesn’t get into your eyes. Also remember to include body areas like your back, soles of feet, in-between your fingers and toes, and your genitals. You need to apply it when your skin is cool and dry, so before applying it takes to shower and wait until your skin is cool and dry. Make sure that your skin dries off naturally after applying the treatment and leave it for 24 hours. Each time you wash your hands, make sure you reapply the liquid to your hands afterward. After 24 hours, you need to wash off the treatment from your skin by having a shower. Again reapply it for the second time. You need to follow the same procedure for up to seven days after the first treatment.

If you have scabies, you also need to do the following:

  • If you’re applying malathion lotion on an infant, make sure to put mittens on your child to stop them from licking off their hands. Don’t apply the liquid to mouth areas.
  • Children must not be allowed to go to school until the first treatment for scabies has been completed.
  • You must thoroughly, wash all the clothes, towels, bed linens at 50 degree Celsius or above after the first treatment. This is because it can kill off the mites living on these objects. Items that cannot be washed should be put in a plastic bag for at least 72 hours until they die.
  • Even after the completion of first treatment, you will still feel itching for up to two weeks because of the skin’s reaction to the dead remains of these itch mites. You can ask your physician to recommend some cream or lotion for temporary relief.
  • However, if the itching continues even after 2-3 weeks, you need to follow up with a second treatment.
