Bleach bath is a simple way to take care of your skin. It is a therapeutic bath which minimizes the amount of bacteria and prevents skin infections, thanks to its antibacterial and antimicrobial properties.

Bleach bath is a clinically approved part of the treatments for impetigo, atopic dermatitis, eczema and psoriasis.

Impetigo is a bacterial infection caused by Staphylococcus aureus bacteria that hosts on the skin. It is infectious disease and generally affects school aged kids. In most cases, impetigo develops following by the stinging of an insect bit or scratch that becomes infected. Bleach water kills the bacteria on the skin before an infection can occur.


Scabies is a contagious skin disease which is caused by mites. It is characterized by the symptoms like redness, scaling, lesions and intense itching. In scabies, bleach bath may be effective as it breaks down the mite’s and kills the eggs as well.

Ringworm Infections:

  • Mix ½ cup of bleach with 151 liter or 40 gallon bathtub filled with warm water. Stir well. Make sure to use HOUSEHOLD bleach as concentrated bleach may pose side effects
  • Make sure the water covers your neck down or the affected parts of the skin while soaking in the bathtub
  • Soak your skin for 10 minutes
  • Rinse if it is too “hard” for your skin. Pat dry with a towel
  • Apply moisturizer immediately or within 3 minutes.

Take bleach bath no more than 2 times a week.


  • Talk to your doctor before using bleach bath if you have sensitive skin or allergy to chlorine.
  • Don’t use bleach bath for excessive dry or cracked skin. Make sure to talk to your doctor about that.
  • Always use diluted form of bleach. Concentrated bleach can cause burning sensation.
  • Don’t add more bleach than the mentioned percentage (1/2 cup of bleach per 40 gallon water) as it can burn your skin.
  • Consult doctor before giving your kid a bleach bath.
